Costa Rica Surf its privileged location, in addition to being a haven of natural beauty, brings together a number of physical characteristics and nature conducive to surf all year round. It is, however one of the more expensive countries in the central and south Americas, with the positive aspect that hotels are good quality and car rental relatively easy and safe.
These are some of the many reasons of good surfing in Costa Rica:
Mares with warm water
Swell consistent throughout the year
Easy access to places with good surf
Approximately 70 miles from coast
Surf camps in many parts of the country
No experience is required as you will find beaches to learn if any
Good Security
No Experience Required
The surfing can be divided into four main areas: The Pacific North (Guanacaste), the South Pacific (Puntarenas), Central Pacific and the Caribbean.
North Pacific Coast
Potrero Grande, Playa Naranjo (Witch's rock), Playa Grande, Playa Tamarindo, Langosta, Avellanas, Playa Negra, Nosara Beach, Playa Coyote, Manzanillo, and Mal Pais
South Pacific Coast
Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Playa Dominical, Playa El Rey, Drake's Bay, Matapalo, Pavones
Central Pacific Coast
Boca Barranca, Puerto Caldera, Playa Tivives , Playa Escondida, Playa Jaco, Roca Loca, Playa Hermosa, Esterillos Este, Esterillos Oeste, Bejuco, Boca Damas.
The Caribbean
Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo, Black Beach, Westfalia, Playa Bonita, Portete, Isla Uvita, The North Caribbean Coast
Swell Season in Costa Rica is approximately April to October, but that log cabin here, make Pacific winds from October to April maintenance of good conditions to enjoy a good chat session surf early in the morning or afternoon.
In the Pacific coast the surf is calmer in the Caribbean but the surf is big and strong so be prepared with good leashes and tables in good condition if it directs the Caribbean.
Because Costa Rica is a very small country, you may move from one coast to another in a matter of hours the same day, so if you are not satisfied with the waves on a beach, may mobilize another beach that meets the conditions looking for. One important thing to mention is that there are beaches for all levels of surfer, so it does not matter if you have no experience; we know very well that due to the great variety of beaches for surfing, you will be able to find the right place to enjoy a few surf lessons.
Another important aspect is the security in the country, there is a low cup of theft. I simply recommend that if you are a car does not leave all your stuff (camera, wallet, passport, money, things of high value) visible, leave at the hotel or keep them in your luggage. Most thefts are given to tourists who leave their valuables clearly visible, or worse, leave the car without insurance.
