Costa Rica Surf Central Pacific Jaco


Central Pacific of Costa Rica Surf : The best season is also during September to March. Even if is a little smaller you will get the best conditions. The waves can be very powerful in some places like Playa Hermosa. This region catches swells from north to south and rarely flat. The rainy season is usually a lot bigger. The waves in the Central Pacific region are consistent especially during the rayni season. All kinds of beach brakes and reef breaks can be found along this area.



Jaco Beach is the mecca for surfing in Costa Rica for so many reasons. For tourists, the town is only 2 hrs drive from San Jose, making it fast and easy to hit the water. Even with its long beach and reef brakes located on the edge of a community boasting a wide range of tourist attractions, surf shops, ding repair facilities, hotels, beach condos, cabinas, campgrounds and restaurants for all budgets, Jaco is a strategic point for surfers to launch closeby excitement, challenging and consistent surf spots. For that reason, most of the country's proffessional, champion and aspiring notable surfers have made their homes here. In addition, the town boasts a dynamic party atmosphere to compliment its reputation as one of Costa Rica's most visited surf towns.

Diego Naranjo is the owner of Surf Camp Jaco Beach, part of the Costa Rica Billabong camps where he gives class to beginers up to prffessional surfers, of all edges from 5 to 65 years old.

Also 2006 National Champio 2007 runner up at mixed pipe in Puerto Escondido Mexico.


Central Pacific:

The beaches to surf around here are Hermosa, Jaco, Herradura, Escondida, Punta Leona, Roca Loca, Isla Damas, Esterillos este, Oeste and Centro. The best season for all this spots goes from May to mid October, in all the central pacific. At low tide the best beaches are Roca Loca, Herradura, Punta Leona and Damas.

As all these spots are beach brakes the depend on the rayni season, during which you can surf in high and low tide.

"Jaco is a beach that only work with south swells that you can surf at middle in high tide. It os for all kinds of levels from beginers to proffessionals, and the size ranges form 1 feet to 6 feet".

"Playa Hermosa is of intermediate level and proffessional depending of the rain and of the tme of the year you can surf it all day, low tide middle and high, and there are from 1 to 10 -12 feet. It s very sensitive to south swells west and a little from the North".

Jaco City:

Jaco Beach is a small city slowly expandinf where you find all kind of services: supermarkets, restaurants, banks, cash machines, drugstores and many other facilities.
